Radio communication system design

Radio communication systems are in common usage in modern-day corporate environments; however the planning and efficient deployment of these systems can be extremely complex. Whether a Distributed Antenna System (DAS) fed via a leaky feeder or IP-based solution, feature sets remain relatively common. We understand that the intended usage and operational requirements of the radio system can be diverse, from simply managing day-to-day logistical efforts between internal facilities groups, to providing coordinated and streamlined communication during emergency situations.

We liaise with key internal stakeholders early in the design process to ensure that all necessary and constituent parts of the system are captured and detailed. This allows us to formulate an optimised performance specification, system architecture and communication strategy that not only aligns with the overall client brief and industry best practice but also factors in any bespoke operational and system performance requirements. A typical example includes aligning the radio distribution system with building evacuation strategies and muster point locations.

Muster points are essential for any development and their geographic placement in relation to the building can vary in distance to suit a specific building’s function or neighbouring hazards (e.g. chemical and biological developments). We ensure that the evacuation and radio communication strategies are aligned. We also assist in the production of signal propagation models that outline expected signal strengths along transition routes and between neighbouring buildings, which is vital for ensuring that communications are maintained during management and resolution of post-evacuation incidents.

We also liaise directly with independent regulators and competition authorities when necessary to ensure that all signal dispersion systems are properly licenced and installed.

Factoring in all pertinent site constraints and characteristics, as well as aligning all bespoke client performance and diverse communication strategies, allows us to produce robust and tailored design solutions that ensure critical communication paths are maintained.
