London’s Battersea Power Station Development (Phase 3): Hotel and retail space
The Battersea Power Station Development is the redevelopment of London’s iconic Grade II* listed power station. Phase 3 of the development was collaboratively designed by architects Gehry Partners and Foster + Partners, and features a new ‘The Electric Boulevard’ high street, 1,300 apartments, a 160-room hotel, and 350,000 square feet of retail, restaurant and leisure space.
Having been involved with the previous phases of the development, we were appointed to design the security for Phase 3 which included creating a site-wide Automated Access Control System (AACS); external CCTV surveillance throughout the development suitable for daily and event-specific security; Hostile Vehicle Mitigation (HVM); and counter-terrorism measures.
Incorporating the principles of natural surveillance, natural access control and territorial reinforcement allowed us to proportionally place security measures throughout the development which were subtle and could be upgraded over time.
