Job Description

Our Design & Production Team based in Central London is looking for a Senior Design Engineer to provide strategic/technical security design service to the Group. The role is primarily office based with visits to clients/key stakeholders as and when neccessary. The ideal candidate will be based in our London HQ and must be within reasonable travel distance to Central London. Occasional homeworking could be discussed for the right candidate.

Main Duties & Responsibilities 

To provide strategic/technical security design services for the in-house design team, inclusive of: 

Project Delivery

  • Effectively capturing clients’ operational requirements and critical success factors, and managing stakeholder engagement and expectations throughout the RIBA delivery stages;
  • Ability to negotiate with and brief external agencies (i.e. MET DOCO, ALO, CTSA) on project requirements and security enhancement/mitigation strategies;
  • Development of security deployment strategies in alignment with agreed operational brief, key stakeholder and external agency requirements;
  • Act as a direct client liaison and project manager to ensure that project delivery is carried out within budget and to suit agreed key milestone dates;
  • Coordinate all security requirements with key members of the professional team;
  • Effectively represent QCIC at all necessary briefing, delivery and coordination meetings throughout the project lifecycle;
  • Commercial / Business Development
  • Assist the senior management team with proposal writing, bid formulation and formal presentation of security consultancy offering to new/existing client base;
  • Effective planning of consulting assignments, inclusive of scheduling, resource planning, and cost management;
  • Provide regular updates to the senior management team, informing them of important and relevant key stakeholder decisions, and that the objective of the client and the company are being achieved; 
  • Professional Development
  • Attend organised Continued Professional Development (CPD) sessions to broaden knowledge of existing and emerging security technologies;
  • Effective mentor junior consultants, assisting with their professional development within the business;

The Candidate

The ideal candidate will have the following skills, knowledge and experience:


  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the development of holistic, risk-based security strategies for large developments within the residential, commercial, hospitality and mixed-use development sectors;
  • Proven experience with enterprise level electronic systems & technologies, their applications with current and future trends
  • Full or associate member of a relevant professional body & proven engagement of continued professional development therein
  • Solid understanding of Secured by Design (SbD), Approved Document Q (ADQ), and SABRE principals, and their applicability/use within a development;
  • Thorough understanding of counter-terrorist engineering, specifically ballistics, MFTA & CBRN mitigation strategies;
  • A strong understanding of security within the built environment, techniques and applications common to security risk management, resilience and design;
  • Experience with the formulation of Strategic Risk Assessments (SRA) and Threat & Vulnerability Assessments (TARA)
  • Command & Control, PSIM, and System Integration design;
  • Effective workload planning, inclusive of project management, financial reporting and resource planning;
  • Proven ability to operator as an advisor / consultant, inclusive of good personal engagement, time management, listening skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Experience in writing written proposals and bids, understanding of project finance, contracts and commercial requirements;
  • Ability to work on an independent basis and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary design team;
  • Ability to effectively present to clients, external stakeholder and key members of the professional team;
  • Ability to motivate and impart previous experience and technical knowledge to junior members of the team;
  • Ensure that quality levels are constantly maintained in alignment with the Quality Management System (QMS) and ISO 9001 principles; 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel);


  • Blast Mitigation Design
  • Recognised Security design qualification (CPP, PSP or equivalent);
